My wife and I live in Port Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu,a charming tax heaven in the South West Pacific. Although in the tropics, there is a cool season from June to September. The natives, called "Ni-Vanuatu", have a cheerful nature and their religious schooling gave them modesty and good manners. There are no beggars
tipping is not expected. The smiles are genuine.

Visitors are delighted at the clear waters, coral reefs and some shipwrecks to explore. There is also big game fishing. The Yasur is one of the few active volcanoes in existence and is easily accessible on foot. The famous Land dive, on Pentecost island is the ancestor of the bungee jump.

Our house is a 800 sq.m. mediterranean style mansion situated at the edge of Erakor lagoon, facing the prevailing East breeze. We have the view on the open sea but the reef ensures that the lagoon waters are always calm.
We have a private white sand beach with a picnic corner under a shady tree. or at night under the spotlights.

The best view of the lagon is from our huge covered terrace, paved, like the rest of the house, with Italian marble. Most of the house is air conditioned and fitted with electric roller shutters. The 2-cars carport with remote control door, opens to the kitchen, laundry room and to my study.

besides the 3 main bedrooms with ensuites, there is one guest room with shower on the first floor, next to the gymnasium. Both air conditioned. There is also a detached air conditiomed studio (2 rooms and bath) suitable for staff accomodation or an extra guest.

There is plenty of storage space in the attic. This is a boon to people like myself who have felt cramped when visiting small (unfurnished) flats in Singapore although those flats were selling at a higher price than our lagoonside property!

Speaking of furniture, this house is fully furnished with french, balinese and japanese furniture. Ceilings are in rosewood.
The patio, paved with stones from german Bavaria, can be closed by a french wrought iron grille. I contains a fountain from the french Riviera, and beautiful green parakeets. Lovely for candlelight dining.

All this is less than 5 minutes from the centre of town, 2 minutes from the Lagon Hotel's golf course, and 15 minutes from Bauerfield international airport

Vanuatu is one of the very few complete tax heavens. Banking secrecy is strict. There are no Income tax, no capital tax, no inheritance tax, no parking meters, and no air pollution. Violent crimes are a rarity. French and english are the official languages
Housegirls and gardeners are inexpensive. Tap water is drinkable in Port Vila. Thanks to french Charolais cattle grazing outdoor all year round, local beef is excellent and reasonably priced. Poulet fish melts in the mouth and is always super-fresh. Three bakeries make delicious french bread and pastries. Hydroponic lettuces and tomatoes are grown locally. There are well stocked supermarkets in Vila where most things can be found, mainly imported from France, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China. Satellite television is common as well as broadband Internet. Cars and air conditioners can be adequately serviced.
